She is the epitome of the reliable workhorse and training aircraft. Derived from the predecessor Piper J-3, it had its maiden flight in 1949. As a result, over 10,300 pieces were then produced. As a braced high-wing aircraft with a large tandem canopy, it allows the pilot an excellent all-round view while cruising comfortably. The Piper can be used in many different ways, e.g. as a glider tow plane, with floats for water landings, with skis for use in snow or as a banner tow plane with an advertising message.
